Starting the Movement..
It was a drunken night one evening when two friends were talking fantasy way back in what might have been the year 2001. One lad said to the other, "what if you drafted all 4 fantasy sports at one time and could trade a hockey goalie for..like...a quarterback...wouldn't that be cool." The other drunken fellow looked at him and said, "that's ridiculous...who would do that except you and me...and my buddy...and his buddy."
Then we drank more and let the dream die. It was stupid. Who would do that? You'd have to know all four fantasy sports, be willing to sit through a draft that would take way too long, and know at least 8 other derelicts that would do it too....impossible.
Fast forward to 2010 and I got the itch. Called that drunken lad from way back and said what the fuck...let's get the boys together and make this happen. We came up with a crude set of rules and away we went, the inaugural draft was held in August 2010. Ten whole hours of drafting. Insane looking back now how long it took. My lovely wife made the folks breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We ran out of beer and had to send someone sober on a run for more. By all accounts a great time had by all.
Then I had to figure out how to run this thing. Turns out it's almost impossible. To run a league like this it takes skill, dedication, and a whole lot of booze. And here we are today after many years. Some folks from ESPN got the glory a couple years back for trading a relief pitcher for a backup dud....but we were the first as far as I can tell. Maybe they found my really bad website of old. Who knows. Today, I am contacted by people a couple times a month about doing this and how to run their league. If you have questions, send me an email. I'm more than happy to help. And glad to see it grow.
So now we promote the idea of the 4 Sport Fantasy Draft as best we can with no pub and nowhere to be found on the Google search. Someday, maybe we'll be rich. Someday, maybe we'll be famous. But on this day, and every day after, we will be the best.
